It begins with botanicals.
Every Modern Scribe calligraphy ink starts its life in nature.
We draw inspiration from the blooms, leaves, bark and even the soil beneath our feet when formulating inks, and we always use as much natural material as possible in our blends.
Our studio houses an ink distillery where petals are pressed and concoctions steep until the colour reaches its fullest concentration and joins our botanical ink collection.

Never from paint.
Our ink is always made from scratch using raw pigment or botanical dyes.
We never dilute paint with water to create calligraphy ink — a practice increasingly common in certain circles. Paint contains fillers and additives designed to perform well on canvas, but these same ingredients hinder flow and clarity when used with a dip pen.
To create ink of the highest calibre, we begin at the base — with full control over every ingredient.

Sourced from esteemed private collections, each antique and vintage nib in our shop was originally crafted to meet the highest standards of its time. These nibs remain sought after today for their consistency, balance, and presence on the page.
We stock only what we’ve personally tested and loved — nibs that glide, flex, and hold ink with precision and grace.
Alongside our Heirloom Range, we offer a carefully curated collection of modern nibs that honour these same principles. Many are modelled on historic designs, bringing the best of the past into the present. Whether newly made or decades old, every nib we sell is pristine stock: in completely unused condition and waiting to write its first word.

Our range of calligraphy inkwells begins here, with the porcelain inkwell chosen most often by our calligraphy community.
Cast in white porcelain and finished with a gilded cork closure, it is designed for the desk of the dedicated creative. Each piece is beautifully weighted to hold its own during use — no tipping, no slipping, no distractions. It stays steady, so you can stay with your practice.
Made for daily use, and crafted to endure, it is monogrammed in deep archival red — a single mark that binds it to its keeper.
